This program will be well-behaved when it can be watched uninterrupted by commercials. It is almost a meditation on the awesome splendor out there. Awesome is a word that has lost distinguished of its value these days but this program invokes fright. I can’t wait to establish the headphones on and fade into the interstellar spaces. After watching it I found it a steady challenge to balance the depressing things going on down here with the billion year beauty out there. Ravishing graphics, respectable narration, it weaves a spell. Thank you National Geographic I have waited years for a program like this. This is what computer graphics were made for.

This documentary is, hands down, the most well made documentary on the Universe I have ever seen. I have been watching Discovery Channel and other channels like it since I was a child.

I’ve seen a thousand documentaries on our universe. Nothing even comes finish to this. I have spent many years contemplating our region in the universe both from religious and philosophical standpoints. I can honestly say that this documentary has played a pivotal role in shaking me out of my “bubble” on how I belief nearly everything. After first seeing it on National Geographic, I spent months thinking about it. When I scrutinize out at the Ocean now I am aware of who I am and where we really are.

When you accomplish this video, you will drag away from it with an awareness that you never had before, of the unseen astronomically massive universe that we float around on like a spec of dust in the ocean. The most colorful and dread piquant thing about it, is that its all completely factual. This video takes you on a drag through the universe as if you are watching a Sci Fi adventure. Yet you constantly have to remind yourself that what you’re seeing is really out there. This is all fact.

Someone else aptly described this video in better words than I can:

“it was as if time were standing detached. The narrator takes you on an fabulous shuffle from the face of the earth to the edge of the Universe (as we know it) in a delicate visual articulation of the cosmos. I have literally watched this almost everyday since first seeing it on TV. The graphics are top notch and extremely serene. It feels as though you are good there, soaring thru the galaxies at home and diagram beyond. The verbage in this program is comprehensible and the terminology basic enough for these in-depth concepts of Physics and Geology to approach to life and idea for even the most un-mathematical type of minds. This program is the most though-provoking and knowledge envoking of any I have seen yet about the Universe.”

I spy that all other reviews where written before the Oct. 19th 04 release of this DVD, therefore referring to VHS only. I purchased and viewed this today, Oct. 27th. 04. It is not my contrivance to give this a detailed review as has been done at lenght eleswhere. Not my style anyway.

To write about Greek or Roman history/heros with all the factions and diverse warring rulers of those times is unimaginative at best. And a hard subject to place into a screenplay, to breathe the least. However this is a literate screenplay and all the players are mentioned, objective a bit hard to follow unless you’ve read your Will Durant. Not unprejudiced another popcorn flick.

No, I fair want to say that if anyone is thinking of buying this DVD, I don’t contemplate you’d be disappointed, providing you adore all the Hollywood epics of the 50’s. If you do you may want this one too! Not the spectacle of Quo Vadis, Ben Hur, King of Kings or the pagentry of Cleopatra, but a great entry none the less. Matte paintings frail in all aforementioned weak here as well, but not as many. The Babalonian City is unbelievable and enough glass paintings to relate an fable, unlike the claustrophobic Spartacus. The sets are somewhat meger, like Spartacus, but what lacks there is made up for in the exercise of Technicolor and Cinemascope and the absolutely noteworthy and exquisite wardrobe. This is a terrific transfer and will behold even better on your 16 x 9 HDTV! The 480 that DVD’s save out examine as though you might approach for that goblet on wine on the table.

Spain seems to double well for Greece and Persia and although the battles were not of the rousing kind, one over looks this as a trade off to the overall movie. This film also doesn’t have that ”’Hollywood touch”’ of the others of the 50’s and seems more adult for that reason {Barabbas 61′ is another}.

So if you’re looking for another sizable but not Tremendous 1950’s account objective crop the Grodian Knot and stride out of the store on stale Bucephalus!

Oh yes, I hope the up coming modern release of Alexander, anticipated and welcomed, surpasses this version as there is nothing considerable better than a agreeable movie, but this 1956 Richard Burton, Fredric March film may be above the designate in the ruin, as so many remakes or rehashed films can never reach conclude the their predecessors, even with all of the CGI of today. Survey at the disappointing Troy, a DVD I won’t be purchasing.

Great entertainment and historically legal, for the most portion. Richard Burton plays a convincing Alexander. From the initiate, with the background on Alexander’s youth and his relationship with his father Philip and mother Olympias, the movie awesomely captures history. The battle scenes are recreated very well. I especially liked the post-battle scene at Chaeronea with the drunken Philip’s singing echoing through the valley. Only minor errors, such as Darius’s daughter being called Roxanne (a Bactrian princess) instead of Statira, can easily be overlooked. Alexander in fact, married both women anyway. The Persians are also shown historically upright for the most fragment, especially Darius’ execute and the scene at Persepolis. For an under two-hour movie, what you rep is quite spectacular. Of course, it would be difficult, if not impossible, to cleave to film everything in Alexander’s life.

This disc collects the three-part “City at War” yarn arc, as well as the “Rogue in the House” 2-parter. Effect that with this release, the first two seasons of TMNT are now available on DVD.

City at War, while fairly appealing, is an example of the unpleasant narrative pacing that plagued the series in its second season. The legend was adapted from a 13-issue miniseries from the unique comical, and while many subplots needed to be dropped or toned down for saturday morning standards, that’s not the jam here. The quandary is that station points like the robot battle go on for far too long, cutting into time needed to effect Karai’s arrival and her association with the Foot. You dont glimpse enough of the gang violence to really score a sense that the entire city is at war. And Leo and Raph’s arguments are annoying and circular – they argue because the writers develop them argue, not because their arguing actually goes anywhere. And 4Kids TV standards are painfully determined, as no one gets remotely injured even when people are firing rocket launchers at each other from only 10 feet away.

However, Rogue in the House makes up for all the problems with City at War, and is my main reason for recommending this disc. Featuring the fan favourite Triceraton Zog, this 2-parter is a clever homage to the modern series that archaic school fans will care for. Rude on position and high on rapid action and references, we regain Foot Mechs (the equivalent of the former Foot Soldiers), a robot Splinter (former in “Thought 6 From Outer State”) and replicas of the President and Prime Minister (”Cowabunga Shredhead”) . This is as halt to the veteran series as the current one gets, and manages to be mindlessly fun while playing everything straight-faced (gotta care for that ‘Superfriends’ battle charge) .

Buy,Download, Or Stream Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – City At War! Click Here

With a tall 2-parter and a flawed but curious 3-parter, this disc comes recommended. Now bring on season 3!

I didn’t know if this DVD was going to be a fine seize, but I have no regrets. It’s even funny impartial for the fact the Turtles extinguish up fighting alongside a couple customary enemies, though the episodes are quite scrumptious. There were a few parts they could have been a cramped more subtle on, but they did definite up at least one hanging plotline from the Secret Origins episodes and all in all this was a genuiunly fun assume.

This DVD is a marvelous introduction to the history of Egypt’s Fresh Empire period. Most of the interviewed scholars accomplish insightful and legal commentaries. The two exception I would point out to is when they negate of Pharaoh Akhenaten, of whom they display the weak, questionable views of a fanatic, incompetent king; and secondly when they refer of the relationship between Queen Hatshepsut and Thutmosis III, attributing to the latter the erasing of the Queen’s name and images from obvious monuments without having proof of the matter. Other than this are distinguished the many dramatizations and the shots from the monuments, works of art ( most of which are the originals ), and the compelling storytelling of a long history. If you really like Old Egypt or would like some nice introductory stuff this is a grand choice. But retain learning more and do your believe conclusions.

This is an ample introduction to the succession of the pharaohs. It shows each ruler as he or she succeeded the others and what overall contribution of each to the serve of the kingdom of Egypt. A excellent history lesson.

Well, after WWE has already released anthologies on their other 3 major events…it’s time for the final one in their “Gigantic Four” being the Survivor Series. This first Volume is from the early years of the event where the heavy focus was on strickly having brand team elimination matches with wrestlers teaming together based off favorite hatred for others on the opposite team…to the point where there is only one match on here that wasn’t a ticket team elimination match. Now support in mind that I’m doing my reviews from either the VHS version with the unedited event or a replay I caught off WWE Classics On Examine.

Buy,Download, Or Stream WWE: Survivor Series Anthology, Vol. 1 – 1987-1991! Click Here

1987 – This is going to be a treat for those who already have this event on video because if you remember, the VHS version was edited down to 2 hours there so here you gather the corpulent event. This was historic in many ways as this event marked the first ever Survivor Series and also the fact that this PPV ran on the same night as NWA’s Starrcade event (which caused Starrcade to be bumped off many cable networks) . The main event featured Andre The Giant, One Man Gang, King Kong Bundy, Butch Reed, Rick Crude vs. Hulk Hogan, Paul Orndorff, Don Muraco, Ken Patera, Bam Bam Bigelow that’s remembered for it not only being the first time Hogan & Andre were in the ring for a match since WrestleMania III but the outstanding performance of Bigelow that puts a heed on the designate he’s gotten as “one of the best ‘big men’ in wrestling.” Also on here is the first ever 20 man ticket team elimination match with 5 heed teams on each team & other matches feature Randy Savage, Jake Roberts, Ricky Steamboat, Brutus Beefcake, Jim Duggan vs. Honky Tonk Man, Hercules, Danny Davis, Ron Bass, Harley Bustle…and an all womens match featuring teams headed up by Faboulous Moolah & Sensational Sherri. There were only four matches here but each one went around 20 mins. (the heed went almost 40 mins.) and was all quality in their beget just.

1988 – Objective like the 1987 edition, the 1988 edition was also edited down on the VHS (only the ticket team & main event were shown in corpulent) so this is the first time it’s been released unedited. The main event here was Mega Powers, Hercules, Koko B. Ware, Hillbilly Jim vs. Twin Towers, Ted DiBiase, Haku, Red Rooster in a match that continued so many ongoing feuds (Hogan/Boss Man, Hercules/Dibiase) & storylines at that time (problems between Heenan & Rooster, the continued tease of jealously between Hogan & Savage over Elizabeth) . Also on here was the final WWE appearence of the Dynamite Kid along with the PPV debut of Shawn Michaels in a 10 man heed team elimination match that’s mostly memorable for what happened during the match between Mr. Fuji & Demolition & Powers Of Wound resulting in (to my knowledge) the first double turn in WWE history. Other matches include Rick Shameful & Harley Hasten & Dino Bravo & Mr. Perfect & Andre the Giant vs. Jake Roberts & “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan & Tito Santana & Ken Patera & Scott Casey…Ultimate Warrior & Brutus “The Barber” Beefcake & The Blue Blazer & Sam Houston & Jim Brunzell vs. Honky Tonk Man & “Outlaw” Ron Bass & Greg “The Hammer” Valentine & “Uncertain” Danny Davis & Abominable News Brown.

Buy,Download, Or Stream WWE: Survivor Series Anthology, Vol. 1 – 1987-1991! Click Here

1989 – This was a Survivor Series first as this was the first time they started naming the teams. One of the main events was the Hulkamaniacs vs. Million $ Team which was accurate disappointing since the match seemed heavily one-sided (even Ventura pointing it out on commentary) and the main showdown that was being built up here between Hogan & Zues being the plot it was (or wasn’t, depending on how you want to see at it) . The other main event was the Ultimate Warriors vs. The Heenan Family that’s more remembered for the backstage narrative with Arn Anderson and, more importantly, Tully Blanchard that ended up seeing Bobby Heenan wrestling here instead of Blanchard…however this was a tall showcasing of Anderson being the workhorse that older fans remember him for. Other matches include Roddy’s Rowdies vs. Rude’s Brood that was involving down the commentary where Jesse Ventura kept attempting to say the name of Piper’s team but honest couldn’t win it suitable, Dream Team vs. Enforcers that was a solid match, and the King’s Court vs. 4×4’s in another solid match that was highlighted by the interaction with Randy Savage facing off against Bret Hart. The only staunch negative I can say here is that how the monster heels were eliminated in the main events were very disappointing.

1990 – This Survivor Series debuted three unusual ideas into WWE with one turning out to be one of the greatest superstars in the history of the WWE. One fresh opinion WWE introduced here was that the surviving faces of the elimination matches would meet the surviving heels in a “Large Finale Match Of Survival.” Also during this PPV, a spacious egg that was seen on WWE TV for weeks finally hatched (to the crowd’s boos) to stutter the Gooblygooker (Hector Guerrero) . One of the main events here featured The Warriors vs. The Pefect Team which saw the Demolition vs. Legion Of Doom fight that longtime WWE/NWA fans wanted to notice. The other main event was the Hulkamaniacs vs. The Natural Disasters in a solid match. Other matches included the Vipers vs. the Visionaries where history was made as it was the first time an entire team survived, the Alliance vs. Mercenaries in a short one-sided match, and a match with the Dream Team vs. The Million $ Team that had an outstanding battle between Ted Dibiase vs. Bret Hart but more importantly, this PPV featured the dominate debut of The Undertaker. Another stamp to acquire on here is that eventhough Randy Savage didn’t wrestle on the card, he did compose an appearence for an interview.

1991 – The PPV had the nickname “The Gravest Challenge” in reference to the first ever non-elimination match as Hulk Hogan defended the WWF Championship against the then-undefeated Undertaker that saw Ric Flair earn an appearence leading to Taker winning his first WWE Championship. The other main event on here was the Legion Of Doom & Huge Boss Man vs. Natural Disasters & I.R.S. which was as well-behaved as you expected it to be with the bigger record being that after teasing Randy Savage of being reinstated & returning to the ring against Jake Roberts in this match…WWE decided to fair engage Jake Roberts from this match and contain off their match for the “Tuesday In Texas” PPV reducing both men’s roles on this note to objective having an interview. This event also marked the WWE PPV debut of Ric Flair (pay Actual End attention to what belt he wears to the ring…you’ll glean a chuckle out of it) in the match of the night with Ted DiBiase, Mountie, Warlord vs. Roddy Piper, Bret Hart, British Bulldog, Virgil that was filled with comedy, brawling, and straight wrestling (with one very comedic moment between Piper & Sherri) that was only pain by how the match ended. Other matches on here include “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan & Sgt. Slaughter & “El Matador” Tito Santana & “Texas Tornado” Kerry Von Erich vs. Colonel Mustafa & Hercules & The Berzerker & Skinner that was a one-sides squash with this becoming the second time an entire team survived….and Rockers & Bushwackers vs. Beverly Brothers & Substandard Boys that was all about the continued tease of problems between Shawn Michaels & Marty Jannetty. This edition of the Survivor Series was is easily the worst edition on this spot as this PPV was really fair an informercal to promote another PPV that WWE was having less than a week later. The two main attractions that people wanted to view for this event were nothing more than bait to have you turn into that event & WWF seemed to keep more focus into that “Tuesday In Texas” event than their yearly tradition of Survivor Series because alot of the matches weren’t as superb in quality as the years before with some booking that honest looked lifeless in the ruin. At least watching this on tape years later, you know what these space twist are & how the event shaped up afterall but this year’s Survivor Series was honest a boring disappointment.

So overall, if your a heavy fan of the elimination matches then this is the position for you to check out as the first three years were generous quality while the 1990 edition was solid with some questionable booking when it came to some of the eliminations and the 1991 edition was broken-down minus the opening elimination match & Taker/Hogan for the WWE Title so I recommend this volume.

Overall, this was a heavenly valid area, but I noticed one slight change on the 1989 SS spot, one that I only noticed because I have the PPV version on VHS from years relieve and sued to search for it all the time, to the point that I nearly memorized some of the commentary. The pre-match interviews with The Extreme Brood and The Ultimate Warriors are NOT the same ones from the PPV. While I at first understanding they were edited, it was definite they old-fashioned different takes from the ones shown 20 years ago – confirming what I assume many of us already knew, that most of the interviews are scripted and pre-taped.

The Sopranos is one of HBO’s greatest achievements (although I admit that I mediate it lost some of its momentum and spark with seasons three and four) . When I first saw the reveal, I was zigzag. I’d gawk anywhere from three to four episodes a day. One of the spacious things about first watching this exhibit on DVD was that I could spy any number of episodes instead of fair watching one per week.

“The Sopranos: The Complete Second Season” has to be my celebrated season. As remarkable as I like the first one, this was when things were really silly, intense, dramatic and bewitching. The season doesn’t let us down when it comes to Tony having more problems than ever before. Both in his Mafia Family and his immediate family, Tony can never come by a crash. His wife gives him anguish while his kids support doing things that upset him. And don’t score me started on his ill mother and self-centered sister. Life isn’t mighty better in his Mafia Family when the brother of Jackie is released from prison and is giving Tony a hard time both personally and professionally. Not to mention that his long time friend, Stout P. comes assist from a long hiatus when he was first suspected of turning rat to the Feds. All of this leads to one fantastic and unpredictable season that showcases the exhibit like none other.

For me, this was the most fascinating season of them all. I loved the characters, the constantly changing storylines, and the personal and business life of Tony Soprano, which is superbly balanced in this season. There’s serene the powerful appreciated humor in these episodes that were found lacking in the next two seasons. It doesn’t feel like a soap opera, but a more enhanced glimpse into the Mafia world. There’s plenty of action as well as dramatic storylines that will invent everybody pleased for the most allotment.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Sopranos: The Complete Second Season! Click Here

This season comes in a status of four discs, totaling at 13 episodes. The mammoth thing about the display is that it is presented to us in a widescreen format that is enhanced for widescreen TVs. This really makes the reveal that more effective because you feel like you’re actually watching a movie rather than a note on cable. The report and sound quality is vast and really shows. There are some nice puny extras, such as featurettes, brief previews and recaps of episodes, web-links and more.

“The Sopranos: The Complete Second Season” is a bundle of laughs, suspense, drama, action and surprises. You’re always on your toes and you never know what’s coming next. One thing’s for sure; this is the most unpredictable season out of the four seasons (the fifth one looks comely promising thus far) . While you’ll want to inaugurate with the first season if you’ve never seen the expose before, you’ll know that you will have something special to study forward to once you rep to the second season. In my concept, this is where Sopranos is flawlessly at its best. -Michael Crane

In some viewer’s eyes, season two of HBO’s The Sopranos suffered in comparison to the sensational first season. The initial buzz of such a high calibre television reveal had primitive off to a degree. What helps obtain season two so special is how those qualities that made season one such a hit were (and are) intact.

O.K., the overall feel of the sophomore season isn’t as lighthearted as the first–should it be? There is distinguished that Sopranos creator David Stride has to say about life in general. And you may catch that you have more in accepted with the mobbed-up characters than you judge. It’s an spellbinding, edgy, faulty, amusing and ghastly scramble that hasn’t lost it’s brilliant touch. The production of The Sopranos in subsequent seasons has grown (along with the size of its viewership), and the writing has been progressively more feeble, sad and realistic. Yet, it’s aloof fun to contemplate, even with the darker plotlines.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Sopranos: The Complete Second Season! Click Here

If you’ve never seen an episode of The Sopranos, please do. WARNING: Once you do, you’ll probably fork over the money to seize both seasons of the series. It’s THAT addictive. The episodes are more rewarding upon repeated viewings.

There seems to be a broad deal of pre-release confusion concerning what will actually be included on this upcoming plot, and why. In the interest of sorting things out, I should first point out that although this is the first “Forbidden Hollywood” collection to be released by Warner Home Video on DVD, the franchise itself is not original. There were previously two “Forbidden Hollywood” boxed sets and a number of double features released on LaserDisc serve in the 1990’s. Additionally, quite a few “Forbidden Hollywood” titles were also offered on VHS cassette. From the git-go, “Forbidden Hollywood” titles were only culled from that cache of movies that premiered during the few short years after the introduction of “talkies” and the imposition of the Hays Production Code in 1934.

During this time frame, roughly 1929 to mid-1934, Hollywood studio product became increasingly concerned with subject matter that would later be condemned as taboo after the Code came into effect; these so-called “pre-Code talkies” were filled with characters who indulged in premarital sex, extramarital affairs, and even pleased and lesbian liaisons. Films touched on hot-button topics such as rape, abortion, feminism, having children out-of-wedlock, drug abuse, and other social ills. And mind you, these things weren’t impartial delicately hinted at in screenplays … they frequently were shown on-screen and discussed quite frankly. After the Hays Code was adopted by the motion represent industry as a self-censorship tool, this group of films was deemed unacceptable for future distribution and exhibition without judicious editing to clean out now-objectionable material, and so they became, literally, “Forbidden Hollywood” product.

This current two-disc DVD station will feature three titles, but four films, two of them extremely rare. The first disc will include James Whale’s 1931 “Waterloo Bridge”, a film once understanding “lost” and for the last 20 years only screened at film retrospectives (and apparently once or twice on TCM several years ago) . The 1940 remake starring Vivien Leigh, though a astounding and deservedly beloved film, will not be included here since it is not from the pre-Code era, and was never suppressed as piece of the “Forbidden Hollywood” catalogue. Instead, the second film on this first disc will be the challenging 1932 Jean Harlow vehicle, “Red-Headed Woman”, which pushed the envelope aid in the day for its brave depiction of a sexually free secretary who sets her sights on her married boss.

Buy,Download, Or Stream TCM Archives – Forbidden Hollywood Collection, Vol. 1 (Waterloo Bridge! Click Here

The second disc will include two versions of a single film, the 1933 scorcher “Baby Face”, starring Barbara Stanwyck as a blonde bombshell who – after being pimped out by her father in her have hometown – moves to Current York and sleeps her draw up the corporate ladder to the very top. Many film historians point to “Baby Face” as the single film most responsible for the introduction of the Hays Code, the one that ushered in an era of censorship that was to last for more than 30 years. Intriguingly, the version that so troubled the public was actually an edited version of the new sever, which then disappeared for over 70 years … until a complete print was found, restored, and finally premiered on the revival circuit in early 2006. That long-awaited, long-sought fresh version will be included on this region, as will be the edited version that managed to cause such an uproar when it played theatres in 1933.

And there you have it, the official contents of the “Forbidden Hollywood Collection, Volume One”, enough to have a enormous number of pre-Code devotees jumping for joy at the chance to finally survey (and fill!) some seldom-displayed jewels. Let’s honest all hope that Volumes Two, Three, and so on are snappy to follow!

The films of Pre-Code Hollywood (before 1934) have always held a special set in the history of Hollywood. The subjects were treated far more realistically than after the Code was imposed. This selection focuses on 3 films with 3 major central performances.

“Baby Face”, starring a relentless Barbara Stanwyck, is a 1933 Warner Brothers film which traces the rise and rise of a tart. Stanwyck was quoted once as saying that the film was slated for her to give her glamour but that is the least of it. She is certainly dolled up but it is her tough realism that really makes the role as she leaves a plug of men in her path from poverty to riches. The early scenes in her father’s speakeasy are particulary mighty. Seek for a young John Wayne in the cast too. The DVD contains the recently discovered Director’s Slice before the film was hacked by the Censors, so you really earn to notice what the fuss was about. It is entertaining to see how the cuts did not waste the meander of the epic. Fraction of the Censor’s objections was that the heroine did not secure her come-uppance so the tacked on ending in the reduce version assures us that she ends up where she started, which was in fact ambiguous in the recent version.

“Red Headed Woman” is probably Jean Harlow’s toughest role, playing like Stanwyck a heartless tart who climbs her intention to the top. Other actresses on the MGM payroll did not want the unsympathetic role but Harlow, with hair dyed from the trademark platinum blonde, has the requisite humour to achieve it over. Parts of the film are very comical with Una Merkel intriguing as Harlow’s sidekick. The ending is hilarious with no contrived retribution for our heroine. The film really helped assign Harlow on top and type cast her in the public’s mind even when MGM later softened her image.

“Waterloo Bridge” is the early Universal version of the MGM current, this time directed by James Whale. Film historians who have seen this version have always claimed it is far favorable to the version starring Vivien Leigh in 1940 with a memorable performance by Mae Clarke. (By the scheme, that’s Mae Clarke peeking out of the DVD Case) . It is a treat to view and well-known for a very early appearance of Bette Davis in a little supporting role. Compared to the MGM film, this version is considerable closer to the unique play, both in script and the draw it is filmed. It has a realism and sense of tragedy which is more engaging than the glossy tearjerker from MGM. Douglas Montgomery, as the soldier, is far more convincing than the starry Robert Taylor but you can sight why it would never have been the box office bonanza the MGM version was – the inequity between parsimonious Universal in 1931 and glamorous MGM in 1940.

The DVD place contains trailers of “Baby Face” and “Red Headed Woman” and a cursory introduction by Robert Osborne. The film prints are stunning given the age of the films. The worst is probably the released version of “Baby Face” but once you have picked up where the cuts were made, you may not concept it again, so it doesn’t matter.

The package would have been improved with a well-behaved documentary about the significance of the films, if only because both “Baby Face” and “Red Headed Woman” notice some spicy ideas about the power of woman over men. In both films, men are the victims, in the passe of Stanwyck’s hatred and the latter Harlow’s greed. Both women consume sex brazenly to enact their ambitions.

This is the second DVD in the Neon Genesis Platinum collection, a re-make of the unique Neon Genesis Evangelion Anime series with enhanced record and audio quality. The animation has been restored and improved to “novel” standards so that this DVD will fabricate a very crisp and distinct describe. Next to that they have also enhanced the sound tracks; the recent Japanese audio is available in 5.1 surround and the English audio tracks have been reworked as well. I hope that it will be re-assuring to know that if you’re already ancient to the English dubs of the new serie that you’ll feel suitable at home listening to this one.

Next to that this DVD also features novel contents, even though some scenes may be very hard to site if you have no material as comparison. You may very well mediate the Platinum series to be the burly batch of the Director Cut’s.

There are 5 Evangelion episodes on the disk (6 through 10: Rei II (also known as ‘Showdown in Tokio 3′), A human work, Asuka Strikes!, Both of you: Dance like you want to glean!, Magma diver) as well as some extra ‘fan service’ ;-)

So on to the special treats… As the name already points out the Platinum series isn’t unbiased a mere re-run. Next to the improvements mentioned above this DVD is shipped in a silver hide (”rush over”) which features a line drawing of Rei in her plugsuit on the front and a description of whats on the DVD on the support. The DVD box itself lists about the same plus on the wait on the episode names written out in Kanjii and the novel air dates.

Then there’s a 12 page booklet inside which describes the episodes, features some very nice pictures from the series and gives you some insight info on the encountered Angels as well.

And finally the reason why I reflect things are getting better… On the first DVD we were only treated with 2 audio commentary tracks as well as the always explain shapely opening and ending (yes, the opening/closing are also show on this DVD) . This DVD features an audio commentary track with Tiffany Grant (English whine actress for Asuka) and Allison Shipp (English direct actress for Misato) .

And then there’s what I think the staunch treat: an Animatic for episode 9 (Both of you; dance like you want to secure!) . Here we are treated with the episode containing only current material: drawings in awful quality (read the stories about the unusual material getting worse? Now you can gaze for yourself) as well as line drawn sketches of scenes and producer notes. Now _this_ is getting the fans what they want in my conception!

So there you have it… Now for a closing personal comment: if you are a fan of the series then there is no design around this release when considering the extras on the disk. And when looking at the fact that they have shipped 10 episodes (almost half of the fresh amount of 26) on 2 disks (so the first 3 disks may very well list the whole first half of the serie) I can’t benefit wonder if the Platinum serie will have 6 “episode disks” and one “bonus disk”. That could be a steady treat…

It has been almost 7 years since I’ve seen the series which was telivised serve in the day. Though befriend then in my early teen years I didn’t quite understand the meaning and the messages leisurely this ample yarn, I was captivated by the artistic movement of this series. This collection shows the series honest like it was telivised, but it has an alternartive las four episodes which shows deleted secenes and extra things. Though I feel kinda teased about the fact that they only reveal the last four episodes and not the whole series (meaning deleted scenes and stuff) . I’m not giving it a thumbs down…I defenetly recommend it. This is large stuff.

While I assume the movie is enormous, I idea everyone should be warned that this is the real same non-anamorphic transfer as the previous release. Amazon’s technical details are in error. The wait on is absent of any 16×9 markings. Popping the movie in confirmed this. Conclude away if you’re looking to upgrade from the first disc.

Of course the movie deserves 4 stars, however I wish I could say the same for the DVD. What does it engage for DVD company to release each DVD enhanced for 16×9 TVs? Nothing!

Recently I bought a SONY BRAVIA 32 Lumber show and I have a collection of over 600 Dvds. I learned now about “Enhanced for 16×9 TVs” and how considerable it is, I did not care about it or even know about it since I possess a standard TV, however all my Dvds are Dwelling 1 and in widescreen, I never recall fullscreen Dvds. So I did an inventory on my collection and realized the following:

Out of 600+ Dvds, 42 are NOT enhanced for 16×9 TVs and they really search for putrid when I played them on my PC. Anyway, according to my inventory.

TOUCHSTONE / WALT DISNEY:

Ransom

What About Bob?

PS: IT IS A Tremendous NEWS THAT TOUCHSTONE ARE RELEASING ‘ENEMY OF THE STATE’, CRIMSON TIDE’ AND ‘CON AIR’ IN EXTENDED UNRATED EDITIONS ON MAY 16. I WISH THOUGH THEY DID THE SAME WITH ‘RANSOM’

WARNER:

91/2 Weeks

Presumed Innocent

NOTE THAT WARNER STUDIO IS RELEASING ONE OF THE BEST 2-DISC SPECIAL EDITION SUCH AS ‘SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION’, ‘HEAT’, ‘MALCOLM X’, ‘DOG DAY AFTERNOON’, ‘ALL THE PRESIDENT’S MEN’ AND MANY MANY MORE.

The reason why they don’t release every DVD in widescreen enhanced for 16×9 is beyond me since soon Widescreen Tvs will replace standard ones.

IT IS A RELIEF THAT AMAZON IS NOW STATING WHETHER THE DVD IS ANAMORPHIC OR LETTERBOXED.

I really liked “Quarantine” despite the number of people who bash it. Yes, it’s an example of a serious and debilitating spot in the US panic movie genre upright now in that it’s a remake of another movie. I’m definite most awe fans like myself are tired of seeing unnecessary remakes of classic anxiety movies we’ve already seen and are ready to glance some modern stories being written. However, when the film in interrogate is a remake of a foreign-language film and it sticks to the modern opinion and sage, then I don’t have so mighty of a plight. And so it is with “Quarantine”.

Yes, it’s a remake of the Spanish movie [*REC]. Since the two films are almost identical, I seize this one since I don’t have to steal my eyes off the action to read subtitles. “Quarantine” is a claustrophobic, tense, and chilling exiguous film and I enjoyed it very, very powerful. Jennifer Carpenter achieve in a mountainous performance, as did the rest of the cast, and if you relish beneficial fright movies you will appreciate this one. Is it a milestone in the dread film genre? No. But then again, milestones are few and far between, hence the term. I *can* assure you that “Quarantine” is the most memorable fright film I’ve seen since it premiered in US theaters and sparkling grand kept me on the edge of my seat once things kicked into gear.

My only qualm with the DVD release is the label. $19.95 for a single edition DVD with so few extras? Near on… Not icy, guys.

Quarantine is a considerable better movie than its previews would lead you to occupy. Previews acquire it see like people are trapped in an mature building with zombies running amok in it. Maybe they came up from the sewers.

In fact it follows a reality TV reporter who is following an LA fire crew on calls. They go to a building when neighbors have reported screams coming from the apartment of an dilapidated lady. What follows is the outbreak of a savage, mind destroying disease where tenants and first responders derive them sealed in with those already infected, by the CDC.

Like Cloverfield and Blair Witch, the film is shot from the single camera notion of the reality reporter’s camera man. Unlike those films the camera work is tidy and does not distract the viewer. Glimpse the long shot when a call comes as the camera man has to follow the reporter down a hall, a flight of stairs and into a truck and realize it was all done in one pick without cuts. The first 20 minutes of the film are the `reality show’ walking around the fire house, talking to members of the fire crew and setting the stage by letting you meet the key players in the film. This is clearly the station up but it doesn’t feel stilted. You don’t feel like saying `get on with it” because you care about the characters. Carpenter, as the on air talent is likeable and believable, going from bubbly on air talent, to dependable reporter as things turn serious to petrified human as she realizes impartial how deep in they are. And she takes the viewer with her.

Previews do this discover like unprejudiced another zombie film. There are certainly elements of that in Quarantine but for the genre it is so grand better than noteworthy of the competition. They even have an explanation, scary in how reasonable it is, for what is happening. Is it “Sound of Music? ” of course not. It is a alarm film, but one in which the director has taken a lot of care to build the whole thing frighteningly possible.
